Trippier made his England debut in 2017 in a 3-2 friendly defeat to France and went on to become a key player in the team.

A year later, he was included in Southgate's World Cup team, where, as a right wing-back he helped lead England to the semifinals and even scored a free kick in the team's loss to Croatia.

Meanwhile, the defender's future at Newcastle is in doubt and has been linked with a move away from the club.
