Carsley’s future uncertain after loss
Carsley, who stepped up as interim manager after Gareth Southgate’s departure, now faces an uncertain future himself following the 2-1 loss to Greece.
While he hinted at a return to his role with the under-21s, his post-match comments left little clarity. Carsley stated that the loss would have "almost no impact" on his chances of securing the senior job permanently, but the timing of the rumours surrounding Tuchel suggests otherwise.
Carsley had taken over the senior squad on a temporary basis, hoping to make a strong impression, but the defeat in Athens has cast doubt on his ability to continue at the top level.

Tuchel’s availability, following his departure from Bayern Munich at the end of last season, makes him a prime candidate although the 50-year-old has also been linked with Manchester United due to Erik ten Hag’s struggles at Old Trafford
