Household Name: Enyimba's coach hails ex-Super Eagles striker Ideye after new year gift for Nigerians
Brown Ideye celebrated his continental debut for Enyimba with a fantastic goal against Black Bulls Maputo.
This season has been particularly tough for Enyimba, who have struggled to make an impact, forcing a managerial change following a dismal run of 11 matches without a win.
Currently, they are on the brink of elimination from the CAFCC, having managed only one victory in five matches. Despite these setbacks, Chibueze remains optimistic about the squad's potential.
“All I can say is that in football it happens sometimes to have ups and downs,” he told Pulse Sports.
“I believe we have really good players and a good squad and I know they can make things better; they can change things. We have wonderful players, players to challenge for the league and I know with time everything will be fine.”
When discussing Enyimba’s chances in the title race, despite the Elephants being eight points behind leaders Remo Stars, Izuogu added:
“Yeah, definitely (Enyimba can win the title). Anyone at the top now knows that Enyimba is coming. That's how it is.”
“Everybody knows, that is the mentality around the club because I have been there and I know the mentality around the club; the fans demand a lot, the management. Even you as a player when you are at Enyimba you demand a lot from yourself as well.”
Chibueze's own career is on an upward trajectory as he gains valuable experience in Moldova. Earlier in 2024, he made headlines with Nigeria's Flying Eagles at the African Games in Ghana, scoring two goals and providing one assist in three appearances.
His strong performances have continued at Spartanii Sportul, where he was named in the Moldovan League’s Team of the Week following his debut.
In his first match for Spartanii, he demonstrated his skills effectively, completing an impressive 92% of his passes while playing a crucial role in a goalless draw against Dacia.
He created two chances and made two key passes while successfully executing three out of four long balls and contributing one interception.
While Enyimba navigate what has been a tumultuous season under the guidance of Super Eagles legend Nwankwo Kanu, Izuogu’s optimism may serve as a rallying cry for the team as they aim to reclaim their status as Nigeria's football elite.
