The Argentine star netted the second goal of the game, adding to strikes from Senegalese forward Nicolas Jackson, and England international Cole Palmer, as the Blues recorded their third win on the bounce in all competitions.
The win sees Chelsea climb into third place ahead of Manchester City, who remain in fourth ahead of their trip to Anfield to face league-leaders Liverpool.
How it happened
The Blues struck early, as Nicolas Jackson finished smartly after Marc Cucurella's excellent work to give Chelsea a seventh-minute lead, and Aston Villa responded with Ollie Watkins testing Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez, but the Spanish goalkeeper kept his side ahead.
Controversy arose midway through the first half when referee Simon Hooper awarded Chelsea an indirect free kick inside Villa’s box for a backpass, however, Emi Martinez denied Cole Palmer's effort.
Moments later, Martinez nearly gifted Jackson a second but recovered to smother the chance. Chelsea eventually doubled their lead before the break when Enzo Fernandez struck a brilliant half-volley following Palmer's setup.
Despite Villa dominating possession after the interval, they failed to seriously threaten Sanchez. Chelsea remained lethal on the counter, and Palmer sealed the win with a stunning edge-of-the-box finish in the 82nd minute, leaving Villa’s woes unresolved.
