Enzo Maresca has admitted that Manchester City and Arsenal have better squads hence the need for more signings at Chelsea despite their over £1 billion spend in the last two years.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has hinted that the club is gearing up for more significant spending in the upcoming January transfer window, despite already investing over £1 billion on players in the past two years.

In a recent press conference, Maresca emphasised the need for strategic acquisitions, stating, “The target after last summer is to do less but be more specific. This is our aim for January and next summer.”

While Chelsea boasts a deep and talented squad, Maresca recognises that clubs like Manchester City and Arsenal currently set the benchmark in the Premier League.

He acknowledged, “It’s quite clear Arsenal and City are ahead of the rest,” citing their stability and consistent performances under long-serving managers.

He highlighted that the sustained success of these teams is a result of their established strategies and team cohesion, which Chelsea is still working to achieve.

Maresca’s approach focuses on improving the squad’s existing strengths while addressing specific weaknesses. “We have a very good squad but with progress and improvement, we aim to close the gap slowly," he noted.

He pointed out that having multiple quality players in each position allows for impactful substitutions, enabling him to adapt tactics mid-game effectively.

Chelsea fans have been left wondering which areas the club will target next. Maresca's commitment to both enhancing the squad and refining tactical execution suggests an exciting future as the club aims to compete with the Premier League’s elite.

With January on the horizon, all eyes will be on Chelsea’s transfer strategy.
