Enzo Maresca has hailed the club’s attacking depth ahead of Sunday’s visit to Tottenham.

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has expressed satisfaction with his team's offensive diversity, emphasising that they are no longer solely reliant on Cole Palmer for goals.

Palmer was the club’s shining light in the 2023-24 season under Mauricio Pochettino, as evidenced by his involvement in 33 of the club’s 77 Premier League goals.

What Maresca said about the club’s depth

The Italian coach acknowledged that while the club’s superstar remains a key player, the team has evolved to the point where other players are consistently contributing in the final third.

"If you remember in my first press conference I said that we cannot rely on Cole for every game because it is not correct," Maresca stated. "He has to enjoy football."

Maresca highlighted the contributions of players like Nicolas Jackson, Noni Madueke, Christopher Nkunku, and Jadon Sancho, all of whom have stepped up their goal-scoring output this season.

He stressed the importance of creating an environment where the playmaker can thrive without carrying the burden of being the sole offensive threat.

"We work every day to allow Cole to be in situations where he can be the best and be good," Maresca explained. "You see that we move him from the right side to the left side, or from one side to the other side, because we want to put players in situations where they can be the best.

“I don’t know if the players are better than last season.

“The only thing I can say is that since we started, with the right side with Noni and Pedro and the left side with Mischa [Mudryk] and Jadon, and Enzo, Cole, Joao the other day, Nico and Christo, the attacking players are doing well.”

Palmer has scored nine goals this season, but Maresca's comments reflect a broader shift in Chelsea's attacking approach.

The Blues are currently the highest-scoring side in the Premier League, and Maresca's emphasis on distributing the offensive responsibility appears to be paying dividends.

What next for Chelsea?

Despite the team's success, Maresca downplayed any title aspirations, emphasising the need for continued improvement in all aspects of the game.

Chelsea travel to Tottenham on Sunday, keen to record their ninth league win this term.
