In addition to Johana, coach Firat will also be without Reims defender Joseph Okumu and Raków Częstochowa fullback Erick "Marcelo" Ouma, who did not travel with the team due to injury concerns.

Harambee Stars midfielder Eric Johana was notably absent as the team traveled to Malawi ahead of their crucial back-to-back 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Burundi and Ivory Coast.

According to Mozzart Sport, Johana did not return to camp after a short break and was not part of the squad that departed for Malawi on Saturday morning.

In his place, AFC Leopards winger Clifton Miheso has been called up as a late addition and is set to join the team in Malawi.

Johana, along with Aboud Omar, was also absent during the national team's journey to the Four Nation Invitational Tournament in Malawi in March.

Reports suggest their absence resulted from internal discord within the team, leading to their last-minute exclusion from the squad. Despite this, head coach Engin Firat had since recalled both players to the national team.

However, Johana, who currently plays in Romania, has once again been excluded from the traveling squad.

Impeccably reliable sources at Leopards have confirmed that Miheso has already begun his journey. "He (Miheso) has already started the journey to Malawi, where he will link up with the rest of the Stars," stated the source.

In addition to Johana, coach Firat will also be without Reims defender Joseph Okumu and Raków Częstochowa fullback Erick "Marcelo" Ouma, who did not travel with the team due to injury concerns.

Despite being named in the final squad for the two games, both players have barely trained properly with the Harambee Stars.

The Stars are scheduled to face Burundi on June 7th, followed by a match against Ivory Coast on June 11th at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, Malawi. These matches are crucial as Kenya aims to qualify for their maiden World Cup in 2026.
