A court has ordered KCB pay their former player Erick Maina 970,000 shillings for breach of contract.

FKFPL side KCB have been ordered by a court to compensate their former player Erick Maina a sum of Ksh. 970,000 for breaching their contract agreement.

Maina has been embroiled in legal disputes with the club since 2020, when he initially filed a case at the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) seeking to obtain a release letter from the team.

In a legal battle spanning almost two years, Maina sought nearly a million shillings in damages for what he alleged was a breach of contract.

Addressing the issue, Maina explained his pursuit of rightful compensation

"I was offered the contract by one Stephen Othoro who said he was representing KCB. However, despite signing the contract, my salary was not paid in the first month as promised,” Maina said as quoted on Mozzart Sport.

“ Even after the second month, the money was not forthcoming."

Maina further claimed that the club had entered a partnership with him to join their junior team, Protégé FC, with the promise of transitioning to the senior team.

However, this promise was not fulfilled, and he was released during the Covid-19 pandemic.

After prolonged legal battles, Maina, who now plays for Division One side Ruiru Hotstars, found relief as the tribunal ordered KCB to settle all outstanding dues.

This includes Ksh. 250,000 for winning allowances, compensation for the two-year contract, damages post-contract termination, and legal costs.

Nevertheless, it's reported that KCB intends to challenge the tribunal's decision in the high court.
