Erik ten Hag has signed a contract extension with Manchester United to remain at the club until 2026 after the new co-owners decided to continue with the Dutch tactician.

Ten Hag has been rewarded for lifting the FA Cup trophy with a contract extension, running through to 2026.

The Manchester United boss was reportedly close to being sacked but after winning the FA Cup trophy against Manchester City, the INEOS board have decided to stick with him.

Ten Hag said: "I am very pleased to have reached an agreement with the club to continue working together.

"Looking back at the past two years, we can reflect with pride on two trophies and many examples of progression from where we were when I joined.

"However, we must also be clear that there is still lots of hard work ahead to reach the levels expected of Manchester United, which means challenging for English and European titles."

The United boss will now focus the next weeks on the transfer market as he looks to bridge the gap between the Red Devils and the league's top sides.

There is interest in Bayern Munich defender Matthijs De Ligt and Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.
