Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag disclosed that he has only watched English defender Phil Jones in action for a mere 20 minutes since assuming control of the club last summer.
Jones is set to leave the club at the end of the season, following the decision not to extend his contract.
The 31-year-old Englishman has had a tumultuous career at Old Trafford, plagued by injuries that have greatly limited his playing opportunities.
In the last three and a half years, Jones has managed a mere five appearances, has not made a single appearance for the Red Devils in the current season.
When asked whether he had seen enough of the defender since taking charge, Ten Hag replied with a grin; “Yes, 20 minutes, first training of the year!”
However, the Dutchman did praise the defender, saying: “He has had a great career, what he achieved.”
“Massive career at Man United. Winning the Premier League, winning the FA Cup, winning Europa League, being present at two World Cups. All the credits for his career.”
Jones joined Manchester United in 2011 after impressing as one of the most promising young talents in the Premier League during his time at Blackburn Rovers.
He has been capped 27 times by England, made 229 appearances for United and scored six goals, and was part of the Premier League-winning team in 2012-13.
Jones’ last appearance for United came in a 3-0 win over Brentford at the end of last season, and he has been sidelined with injury during this campaign.
Jones, who declined a testimonial at Manchester United, took to social media to express his gratitude for the club.
In a heartfelt statement, he acknowledged the privilege of donning the iconic shirt and representing everyone associated with it.
He also reassured fans that he had done everything within his power to contribute, faithfully adhering to the instructions of the medical team during his injury-riddled periods.
"I wish I could have played more. I wish I could have given more to the many squads I played amongst. I will say, from the bottom of my heart, I did everything I could," Jones wrote in an open letter to Manchester United fans.
"It's been very difficult, the last couple of years, there's no denying that," he added in his club interview.
"My family have been absolutely instrumental in keeping me on the straight and narrow and keeping me focused, to try to get fit and try to play more.
"I think the highlight for me would have to be the Wolves game [returning from injury last season], when I came back.
"That was just a moment that I'll never forget. It gives me goosebumps now, thinking about it. I mean I worked so, so hard to get to that stage of fitness.
"That was a huge, huge moment in my career and the fans, that day, were incredible. The love that they showed me for that game, the passion that they showed, was sensational.
"I can't thank them enough for that. They've been a constant support throughout my time here," he said.
