The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) has confirmed that Wubetu Abate has resigned as the national team head coach with immediate effect.
The 45-year-old gaffer was unveiled as the Walia Ibex coach in September 2020 following the departure of Abraham Mebratu after the expiry of his contract.
EFF revealed the development in a statement released Friday night, indicating they had accepted the veteran gaffer's decision.
"Coach Wubetu Abate, the head coach of the Ethiopian national team since September 2020, has submitted a request to the Ethiopian Football Federation to resign from his position.
The executive committee discussed the issue, accepted the coach's resignation, and agreed.

Abate guided Ethiopia to the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
He was credited with assembling a young team of players who had previously represented other countries at age-group levels.
Abate, a former player has managed several clubs in Ethiopia, including Adama City, Ethiopian Coffee, Dedebit, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Hawassa City, Fasil Kenema, and Sebeta Town FC.
