Commercial Bank of Ethiopia ascends to the summit of Group A with six points from two wins, three ahead of Kampala Queens and Buja Queens, who now have three each.

Kampala Queens will have to be on top of their game when they meet Commercial Bank of Ethiopia on Friday to keep their hopes of progressing from the group stages of the 2023 CAF Women's Champions League CECAFA qualifiers alive.

The Ugandan champions staggered to a 2-1 loss to Buja Queens from Burundi just before the Ethiopians walloped FAD Djibouti 8-0 to take control of Group A.

The Djiboutians had shown some resilience to hold the Ethiopians for half-an-hour, but that was all for their effort.

Senaf Wakuma breached FAD's defence in the 31st minute, collecting Loza Abera's pass before controlling and finished to the far left corner om the turn.

Aregesha Tadesse doubled the lead three minutes later before Nardos Getenet and the skipper Abera put the game beyond FAD's reach with two quick-fire goals in the 42nd and 43rd minutes.

Birra Bizuneh added the fifth eight minutes into the second stanza, three minutes before Wakuma completed her brace and FAD's sixth.

Second half substitute Ariet Adong came on to score twice in the 78th and 90th minute but was unlucky not to seal a hattrick in the final second of the game.

CBE ascends to the summit of Group A with six points from two wins, three ahead of Kampala Queens and Buja Queens, who now have three each.

The Kampala side will face CBE on Friday as FAD face Yei Joints from South Sudan.
