The Three Lions were unable to make it two wins in a row after dropping points against Denmark
England fluffed their chance to go top of Group C in the 2024 European Championship after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Denmark.
The tournament favourites took the lead through captain Harry Kane but were pegged back by a sensational goal from Denmark’s Morten Hjulmand who beat Jordan Pickford from range to rescue a point for the Danes.
How it happened
England started the match on th front foot and Kane opened the scoring with an easy tap-in after Kyle Walker robbed Victor Kristiansen of the ball and put in a cross that found its way to the Three Lions’ captain after several deflections.
Denmark hit back before half-time with a thunderous effort from Hjulmand that hit the post on its way in from more than 30 yards out to bring the Danes back into the game.
Both sides entered the break deadlocked and appeared to be satisfied with that result as they were barely able to make in-roads in the second-half.
Although England hit the post through Premier League player of the year Phil Foden, neither side was able to add to the scoreline as they settled for a 1-1 draw.
Southgate’s frustration with his side’s sterile attack saw him replace his entire front three of Foden, Kane, and Bukayo Saka, but substitutes Eberechi Eze, Ollie Watkins, and Jarrod Bowen were also unable to break down the stubborn Denmark defense.
