A former Gunners striker has been arrested for cannabis smuggling.
Former Arsenal footballer Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was arrested at Stansted Airport on Wednesday morning for allegedly attempting to smuggle cannabis valued at a staggering ₦1.2 billion (£600,000).
According to Sky News, the 33-year-old, currently playing for Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship, was detained by officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA) during an operation supported by Police Scotland.
Emmanuel-Thomas was found with 60kg of cannabis concealed in two suitcases that arrived on a flight from Bangkok.
As per the aforementioned outlet, the NCA stated that this operation underscores the agency’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and organized crime in the UK.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, who began his career at Arsenal, has had a varied professional journey, playing for several clubs including Ipswich Town, Bristol City, QPR, Livingston, and Aberdeen.
While at Arsenal, Emmanuel-Thomas played regularly for the reserves, but was unable to secure a regular place in the first team and was sent out on loan to several lower-division clubs.
In 2019 he joined PTT Rayong in Thailand but the following year moved to Scottish club Livingston.
He joined another Scottish club, Aberdeenin 2021 before moving to India to play for Jamshedpur FC.
Following an unsuccessful trial with Scottish side Inverness Caledonian Thistlein October 2023, Emmanuel-Thomas returned to England with National League club Kidderminster on 23 February 2024.
After being released by Kidderminster, Emmanuel-Thomas trained with Scottish side Greenock Morton in July 2024 joining on a six-month contract.
