His former teammate Matteo Guendouzi, once of Arsenal, believes that Dembele has now put himself in the race for the Ballon d’Or, even ahead of established stars like Mohamed Salah.
Dembele’s form puts him in the Ballon d'Or conversation
The Paris Saint-Germain forward, who has been repositioned as a false nine, has exploded in front of goal, netting an astonishing 22 goals in just 17 games in 2025.

With Kylian Mbappe’s departure from PSG, Dembele has been given a more central attacking role, and the results have been nothing short of phenomenal.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Guendouzi tipping him for football’s most prestigious individual prize.
)
Speaking in a recent interview Guendouzi said, “What he [Dembele] is doing makes him a credible candidate for the Ballon d’Or.
“He has always had the potential. He is one of the best players in the world, even without the goals, top three at the moment. But now, he’s adding statistics. He is just confirming what we have thought for a long time.”
Can Dembele outshine Salah?
The transformation has also excited his France teammates, with Mbappe praising his form saying, “I’m always excited to play with him, even more when you see his form! If we have an Ousmane as good as at PSG, we [France] are going to win matches.”
)
While Dembele’s form has made him a contender for the 2025 Ballon d’Or contender, the road to the award is far from easy.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has also been exceptional this season, leading Liverpool’s charge in the Premier League and scoring 32 goals in 43 games in all competitions this season.
)
However, Dembele’s explosive goal-scoring has given him an edge in the debate, especially if PSG can secure major trophies like the Champions League.
If Dembele keeps up this form, he could genuinely challenge the likes of Salah, Mbappe, and Harry Kane for the Ballon d’Or.
