Former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to become head coach of the United States men's football team.

Mauricio Pochettino, 52, has agreed to take over as head coach of the USA, ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which the US will co-host with Canada and Mexico.

Pochettino, who left Chelsea earlier this summer, has agreed to succeed Gregg Berhalter, who was disappointing, especially during the just concluded Copa America.

USSF technical director Matt Crocker held talks with Pochettino as the U.S. aimed to recruit a world-class coach for the national team ahead of the World Cup.

Interestingly, the USSF had initially pursued Jurgen Klopp, but efforts to recruit the former Liverpool manager fell through.

However, Pochettino's experience at top clubs like Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain makes him an excellent fit for the role. He's now tasked with building a team capable of reaching the latter stages of the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Pochettino's old side Chelsea remain keen on bringing Victor Osimhen to the club, but only on their terms.

The Napoli striker has made clear his desire to leave this summer but so far, there has been no breakthrough in talks.
