Roma have seen an upturn in form; however, the 73-year-old is believed to desire a return to retirement; hence, he was reported to have contacted Ancelotti to replace him.
Ranieri debunks rumours
Speaking in a presser, the former Chelsea boss addressed the reports, stating explicitly that he had not contacted Carlo to discuss taking the Roma job.
"All the reports about me calling Carlo Ancelotti to become next Roma manager starting from next season are not true,” Ranieri said. "These stories are wide of the mark."
Ancelotti has also done the same, as when he was asked by reporters if he was in line to replace Claudio, he stated that he was happy at Real Madrid and wanted to continue stewarding Los Blancos.
Ancelotti’s contract with Real Madrid expires in the summer of 2026, and despite his advanced age and talks of a replacement, he said he still desires an extension beyond his current deal.
