Okoth was accused of committing the offenses on the night of April 22, 2024, during which a 3-year-old child tragically lost her life while her mother was reportedly away from their rental house.

Former Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars midfielder Collins 'Gattuso' Okoth will spend another three weeks in Police custody as he faces charges of defilement and murder following a tragic incident in Lucky Summer Estate, Nairobi County.

Appearing before the Makadara Law Courts, Okoth was accused of committing the offenses on the night of April 22, 2024, during which a 3-year-old child tragically lost her life while her mother was reportedly away from their rental house.

According to reports, the incident came to light when authorities received a report from Lucky Summer Police Station, indicating the discovery of the deceased child's body with signs of suspected foul play, including bruises on the neck. The court granted the prosecution's request to detain Okoth for 21 days to allow for thorough investigations.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Okoth would undergo DNA sampling at the Government Chemist and a mental assessment at Mathare Mental Teaching and Referral Hospital before the case's next mention on June 3, 2024.

The mother of the deceased child, Beatrice Awuor, recounted leaving her daughter alone in the early hours of April 22, only to return and find her missing. Investigating officer PC Gilbert Kiprotich stated in a sworn affidavit that a weapon suspected to have been used in the crime was recovered, alongside indications that Okoth was preparing to flee the scene.

Okoth, known for his tenure with Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, had recently been involved in sports analysis just a day prior to the reported crime during the Mashemeji derby at Nyayo National Stadium.

As investigations continue and evidence is gathered by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Okoth remains in custody at Pangani Police Station. The case has sent shockwaves through the Kenyan football community, prompting discussions on child protection and safety.

The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable members of society and underscores the need for swift and thorough investigation to bring justice to the affected parties. As the legal proceedings unfold, the nation awaits further developments in this heartbreaking case.
