Footballers often venture into the business world, as they have the capital to finance this. However, a former Manchester United midfielder could not cope with the financial demands of running a business.

Former England international Jesse Lingard has reportedly placed his fashion brand, JLingz Ltd, into voluntary liquidation.

According to The Sun, the company has been operating at a loss since its inception and currently sits £276,883 in debt, as revealed by its latest accounts lodged with Companies House.

Launched over six years ago, Lingard’s JLingz brand featured lines of clothing, footwear, headgear, and lifestyle accessories, all bearing his signature ‘JL’ goal celebration symbol. The project, unveiled ahead of the 2018 World Cup, aimed tocapitalisee on his rising football profile.

However, the brand struggled to achieve profitability, and Lingard faced criticism for its timing and focus.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville notably took aim at the venture, remarking before a crucial match against Liverpool in 2018, "Before Liverpool away—the biggest match of the season—do not launch a clothes brand."

That match ended in a 3-1 defeat for United, adding fuel to the backlash.

Lingard departed Manchester United in 2022 after nearly two decades with the club, joining Nottingham Forest for a single season before being released again.

Now 32, he has found a new home at FC Seoul in South Korea, rediscovering his joy on the pitch despite frustrations with his off-field endeavours.
