After leaving Manchester United in 2023, De Gea opted against immediately signing with a new club, despite receiving multiple offers.

The former Red Devils shot-stopper described his year off as one of the best periods of his life, allowing him to reconnect with family and friends after spending 15 years at the highest level.
Speaking with La Repubblica, De Gea said, “I just wanted to take it easy for a while after playing at the highest levels for many years. Perhaps, it was the best period of my life.”

During his break, the ex-United No.1 split his time between Madrid and Manchester, staying in shape both physically and mentally.
Now, having returned to professional football with Serie A side Fiorentina, De Gea is looking to end the season on a high before considering an extension with the Italian club.

When asked to name the five best footballers he played with at Manchester United, De Gea selected some of the best Red Devils icons.

The former Manchester United star picked Robin van Persie, Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Romelu Lukaku as his favourite ex-teammates at Old Trafford.
Notably, other top players like Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and Paul Pogba, three players who were key to Manchester United in recent years, failed to make the cut.

Instead, De Gea opted for five iconic goal scorers, however, he also added, “But when they didn’t score against me in training, they also got frustrated.”
Despite his fond memories at Old Trafford, De Gea seems content with his fresh start in Italy, where he now aims to reignite his career at Fiorentina.
