Former Super Eagles boss Finidi George has confirmed that former AFCON winner Brown Ideye is likely to join Rivers United.

Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Finidi expressed excitement about the potential signing after his team’s recent victory in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The forward was spotted in Port Harcourt during George's last match against Shooting Stars, fueling speculation about his return to Nigerian football.

“There is every likelihood that he will join us,” George stated after leading Rivers United to another win.

“He wants to give back, and that’s the most important thing. He has that hunger we see in Ahmed Musa, and if he’s willing to do that, we will welcome him.”

Ideye, who called out Finidi during his short Super Eagles spell, has enjoyed a successful career both domestically and internationally, is known for his impressive performances and experience.

The 36-year-old will bring his wealth of experience, having played for clubs like West Bromwich Albion, Olympiacos and LaLiga side Malaga.

His potential arrival at Rivers United could significantly bolster the squad as they aim for success in the league in Finidi’s debut season after he resigned from the national team.

Rivers United are currently riding high in the NPFL, having recently secured a 2-0 victory over Shooting Stars, which extended their unbeaten run.

The addition of a player of Ideye's calibre would not only enhance the team's attacking options but also provide valuable leadership on and off the pitch, especially after the Pride of Rivers also signed reliable Football League star Ndifreke Effiong.

As United look to maintain momentum in the league, the prospect of signing AFCON 2013 winner Ideye will surely generate excitement among supporters of the Pride.

With a focus on giving back to the community and contributing to the development of Nigerian football, Ideye's potential move could mark a significant step for both him and Rivers United as they pursue their championship ambitions.
