Peseiro and the Super Eagles
Peseiro reached a verbal agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation to succeed Gernot Rohr as head coach of the national team in 2021.
Although he was set to attend the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon as an "observer," interim manager Augustine Eguavoen led the team to the last 16, resulting in Peseiro's deal falling through as Eguavoen was retained post-tournament.
Peseiro was officially appointed head coach on 15 May 2022. He guided the team to a runner-up finish in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, losing 2–1 to the Ivory Coast. He left his position on 1 March 2024.
