Enyimba are currently in third place in Group A and behind Bendel Insurance and Remo Stars.

Enyimba boss George Finidi has revealed that his goal for his team this season, is to ensure that the eight-time Nigerian champions are a more consistent side with their style and form.

The Aba side were one of the four teams to pick three points while away from home during the first game week of the 2023 NPFL season, after goals from Elijah Akanni and Imoh Obot helped them secure a 2-1 win over Nasarawa United in Jos.

The victory which saw Enyimba score 2+ away goals in the NPFL for the first time in 2 seasons, was also meant that the People's Elephants had won each of their last two opening away matches in the NPFL.

Finidi promises Enyimba consistency

In his first NPFL season in Aba, Finidi led Enyimba to 15 wins, 7 draws and 16 defeats - a 38 per cent victory rate - and a 7th-place finish. This season, the 51-year-old has said that things will be very much different.

"Last season we played good football but we weren’t consistent and that was where we got it wrong," the former Super Eagles winger said in an interview with Premium Times.

"The last season, by the way, is gone. We can’t complain about it. We know what happened; it was a bad season, and we accepted it. We will work harder to get the job done this season and get Enyimba back to the continent.

"We came up against the likes of Remo Stars, Plateau United, and even Rivers. We gave a good account of ourselves, but like I said, we weren’t consistent throughout the season.

"Sometimes we will have a good run, but somehow we flop a bit, and that really affected us. This season, we will try to be consistent throughout the season. By doing so, we will get to the continent. The aim is to get to the continental and work towards that and see if we can get there."

Next for Finidi's Enyimba

After their fabulous 2-1 victory over Nasarawa United, Enyimba will return to the Enyimba Stadium in Aba to welcome visiting Akwa United in what would be their first match of the season.
