During the first half, both sides struggled to create significant opportunities, with the exception of Express FC left-back Ismael Kawawulo, whose free-kick from the left wing struck the crossbar and stayed in play in the 38th minute.

Express FC’s new StarTimes Uganda Premier League season kicked off with a goalless draw against Mbarara City FC last Saturday at the Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

During the first half, both sides struggled to create significant opportunities, with the exception of Express FC left-back Ismael Kawawulo, whose free-kick from the left wing struck the crossbar and stayed in play in the 38th minute.

In the second half, the hosts launched several attacks, but Allan Kayiwa couldn’t generate any scoring chances, and star player Alpha Thierry Ssali also faced difficulties in the final third.

Express FC’s head coach, James Odoch, expressed satisfaction with the point, especially considering the tough competition presented by Mbarara City.

He stated in a post-match interview with Pulse Sports: “We have drawn against Mbarara City; we aimed for three points, but we’ll settle for the point. To me, it’s better than losing.”

He also acknowledged Mbarara City’s effort, saying, “You have to credit Mbarara as well because they came with the goal to win, having lost their first game, but we were able to contain them. We’ll go back and prepare for our next game.”

The Red Eagles will now focus on improving their performance against Busoga United in an away match on Thursday, September 28th, which will be their second match of the season.

In related matches, KCCA FC faced a setback in Jinja, losing to BUL FC 1-0, while in Kavumba, Soltilo Bright Stars and Wakiso Giants played to a 1-1 draw.

The league action resumes tomorrow in Luzira, with Maroons FC hosting S.C Villa at 3 pm.
