The goalkeeper has assessed his first year at Old Trafford before Saturday’s encounter against Manchester City.

Andre Onana has admitted that year one at Manchester United has been challenging in the lead-up to Saturday’s FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City

FA Cup final

Pep Guardiola’s side are keen to become the first side to win the Premier League and FA Cup in consecutive seasons in English football history, and standing in their way are the Red Devils, who need success to play European football next season.

Victory for Erik ten Hag’s men guarantees Europa League football next season, and the beleaguered Red Devils hope a campaign that has seen them end eighth in the league and exit the Champions League in the group stage ends on a winning note.

What Onana said before the FA Cup final

Onana was in Inter goal in last year’s Champions League final against Man City in his final game of the previous campaign.

Speaking to the club, the goalkeeper stated his hope to be on the winning side this time and revealed that the 2023-24 season was the most disappointing of his career.

“You know, I think I would take this personally and I think this is maybe my worst season, admitted the Cameroonian.

The goalkeeper subsequently stated how injuries had hampered the club’s campaign.

“We have important players who have been injured for almost the whole season, and it's difficult for the team,” said Onana “Not only the team, for the club, for the squad, for the physios, for the supporters, because they are used to seeing all the players fit.

“And at the moment we have to deal with that difficulty because everything in life is temporary. It will pass. Most of them, they are already coming back. It's already positive for us.”

Manchester United have lost four of their last FA Cup finals, and they hope to avoid losing a fifth in six against a club on an 11-game winning run in the competition.
