Manchester United fans have grown impatient with Mason Mount’s performance after missing an empty net against RC Lens.

In Saturday's preseason friendly between Manchester United and Lens, Mason Mount had a bad experience.

Mount made his first appearance at Old Trafford since moving to United from Chelsea this summer.

The English international is yet to score his first goal for United as they welcome Ligue 1 team Lens to Old Trafford in their preseason friendly.

The former Chelsea midfielder was one of the talking points after the game where he missed a golden chance to put United ahead.

Fans react to Mount miss

Manchester United secured a 3-1 victory over RC Lens after conceding an early goal from a remarkable halfway strike. However, it was Mount's miss that got Man United fans furious.

Marcus Rashford made a delightful long pass to Alejandro Garnacho that caught former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Brice Samba out of position in the Lens goal.

Garnacho squared the ball towards the path of Mason Mount inside the 6-yard box to poke home but the ball instead rebounded off the summer signing's standing leg as he attempted to connect with his strike.

Erik ten Hag's team's friendly game would only grow worse in the first half as fellow newcomer Andre Onana was off his line as Florian Sotoca gave the visitors the lead.

Following Mount's miss, many United supporters questioned why Ten Hag was so desperate to sign the former Chelsea midfielder.

One fan wrote, “What I've learnt from MU pre-season: 1. We overpaid for Mount. Presses well, but the final third leaves a lot be desired. Not convinced on this signing, but will be happy to be proven wrong.”

Another questioned the choice made by the United boss, “Why exactly did Ten Hag and Man United sign Mount?”

Another fan wrote, “I know I keep saying it. But giving Mount the number 7 shirt is on par with paying £80 million for Maguire.”

Another popular account on Twitter, Troll Football  also wrote, ”Chelsea scammed Man Utd.”

Manchester United will begin their Premier League campaign against Wolves as they look to build on last season's performance.
