The trio of Enyimba, Shooting Stars, and Ikorodu City suffered a black Wednesday in the Nigerian Federation Cup round of 32.

NPFL sides Enyimba, Shooting Stars and their counterpart from the NNL, Ikorodu City, will play no further part in the 2023 Federation Cup.

Enyimba and Shooting crashed out through penalty shootouts while Ikorodu City were thrashed by another NPFL side, Kwara United, in the round of 32 on Wednesday.

Enyimba give up a two-goal lead

It was a bad day at the office for Finidi George and his People’s Elephants in the Federation Cup.

The Elephants crashed out despite leading Plateau United by 2-0 with 15 minutes left on the clock.

An own goal just before the break from Ifeanyi Emmanuel handed the Aba Millionaires a 1-0 lead at the break.

Enyimba are champions of the Abia FA CUP, but have now crashed out of the Federation cup.

Enyimba looked home and dry when Chilekwu’s stunning free-kick doubled the advantage with just 15 minutes to play.

However, a remarkable fightback from the Jos side saw Enyimba let slip the lead as Plateau equalised to force the game into penalties.

Federation Cup
Plateau United bounced back from their defeat in the league to send Enyimba out.

Fidelis Ilechukwu’s men eventually wrapped things up with a 3-2 win after Enyimba missed three of their spot kicks.

Shooting fall to Wolves

Warri Wolves proved a hard nut to crack for Gbenga Ogunbote and his Oluyole Warriors.

Shooting Stars were also knocked out of the competition.

For 90 minutes, the Ibadan Warriors were unable to break down their visitors from Warri, who forced the game into a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw.

The Stars will miss two of their kicks while the Wolves missed just one for a 5-4 win.

Ikorodu’s journey ends

In Osogbo, it was Kwara United who qualified for the round of 16 following a comfortable evening against the Oga Boys.

Kadiri Samad was the hero and star of the day for the Afonja Warriors as he netted a brace in the easy 3-1 win.

Ahmed Jimoh scored the other goal for the NPFL strugglers who go through to the round of 16 to ease what has been a difficult season.

With the results, Plateau United, Warri Wolves and Kwara United have advanced to the round of 16 of the Federation Cup.
