The state qualifiers for the Federation Cup kicks off this weekend

The Lagos Football Association (FA) has confirmed five centers to host the state challenge cup matches.

Dotun Coker, the state FA Chairman Technical Committee, Football Association LDFA, stated that five centers will be used in this year's Lagos FA Cup.

He added that the approved stadiums are, the legacy pitch Surulere, Albati Barracks sports center, Ojuelegba, the Strong Tower, Ikorodu, Unity Primary School football pitch, Ajegunle, and Onikan Stadium, Lagos Island.

He said further that the annual football biggest competition in the state, the organizers and title sponsor, Winners Golden Bet, BETWGB, have decided to exclude Epe center, Alade sports center, Ipaja, and Rehabilitation sports center, Isheri-Oke Ojodu Berger due to pressure from club owners, coaches, and football administrators that some centers should be excluded from hosting matches.

“The Lagos FA board members and our sponsor have resolved to use five centres for the competition so let leave it there.We are organising the draw conference on Wednesday and we would discuss more about the centres,” he told sports247

Federation Cup final to May 7

The structure of the 2023 NPFL season will see teams, play their last matches in the first stage of the abridged season on Sunday, May 14. The top three teams from Group A and B will then proceed to a Super 6 playoff tournament scheduled for later.

Bayelsa United are the last winners of the men's cup, having won the competition in 2021, and the 2022 edition cancelled after the quarter-finals

According to the NFF communique, the grand finale of the Federation Cup competition will hold a week before the last matches of the NPFL season.

"In affirming that the grand finale of this year’s Federation Cup competition will hold a week before the last matches of the Nigeria Premier Football League season," the communique said.

"The Executive Committee stated that this will allow the winner to prepare adequately for the task of flying the country’s flag creditably at the CAF Confederation Cup. It observed that failure to adhere to the calendar/lack of any in the past few years was the principal reason for Nigeria’s recent poor show in continental club competitions."

The winner of the 2023 tournament will represent Nigeria at the 2023 and 2024 CAF Confederations Cup.
