FIFA has threatened another African country with a ban over interference in Football Association elections.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is facing a potential ban from FIFA due to interference in its electoral process.

The controversy surrounding the election of FAZ's next president has led to FIFA issuing a warning letter to the Zambia National Council of Sports (ZNCS).

At the center of the controversy is the disqualification of four candidates, leaving current president Andrew Kamanga unopposed for a third term.

The ZNCS wrote to FIFA requesting their intervention, which prompted Elkhan Mammadov, FIFA's Chief Member Associations Officer, to issue a warning letter.

"We would like to remind you that every member association of FIFA is statutorily obliged to manage its affairs independently and without undue influence from third parties, including government bodies," Mammadov stated in the letter via Sln.

Mammadov emphasised that any breach of this obligation may lead to sanctions, including the suspension of FAZ.

He continued, "Should the transitional committee be indeed established, FAZ would be at risk of breaching the above-mentioned statutory provisions. Should this happen, FIFA will have no option but to submit the matter to its relevant decision-making body for consideration and decision, which might also include the suspension of FAZ."

This development will have implications for Zambian football, with the potential ban threatening the country's participation in international competitions, including the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema has intervened, directing the Minister of Sports to ensure that FAZ and its aggrieved parties engage in non-judicial dialogue to resolve the issues.

However, it was reported earlier that Congo was also banned by FIFA  due to "a particularly serious situation of undue interference by third parties" in its affairs.
