Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich are set to receive compensation from FIFA after stars sustained a season-ending injury on international duty.
Alphonso Davies sustained a serious knee injury while representing Canada during the March international break.
Davies suffered the devastating ACL tear just 12 minutes into Canada’s 2-1 victory over the United States in the Concacaf Nations League third-place play-off. The injury is expected to sideline him for the remainder of the season as well as the summer pre-season.

Under FIFA’s Club Protection Programme, Bayern Munich are entitled to financial compensation as Davies’ injury occurred during international duty.
FIFA’s Club Protection Programme ensures that clubs are reimbursed when their players suffer long-term injuries while representing their national teams. The compensation amount is calculated based on the player’s salary, with a maximum payout cap of €7.5 million (£6.2 million).
Recent reports also suggest that the German side are not happy with how Canada handled the situation and could be moving for legal action against the country.
Davies ruled out after signing new Bayern contract
The injury comes just weeks after Davies committed his future to Bayern Munich, signing a new five-year contract that runs until June 2030.
His previous deal was set to expire in June, sparking speculation about a potential move to Real Madrid. However, the Canadian international opted to extend his stay in Bavaria rather than leave as a free agent.
Since joining Bayern from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019, Davies has won five Bundesliga titles and lifted the Champions League, establishing himself as one of the world’s top left-backs.
