FEFAFOOT president Samuel Eto'o has received a suspension from FIFA for breaching disciplinary regulations.

FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto'o has been slapped with a six-month suspension by FIFA for breaching the federation's disciplinary code.

What happened

The former Barcelona striker, in his capacity as president of the Cameroonian football federation, is once again in trouble with the regulations.

FIFA announced today that they have handed the 43-year-old a six-month ban, which would prevent him from attending Cameroon matches, male or female, during the duration of the suspension.

According to the federation’s statement, Eto’o was found to have breached articles 13 (Offensive behaviour and violations of the principles of fair play) and 14 (Misconduct of players and officials) of FIFA’s disciplinary code.

The transgression was said to have occurred during Cameroon’s 3-1 defeat to Brazil in the round-of-16 of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup which took place last month, however, the federation failed to provide additional details of the incident.

FIFA’s statement

“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the President of the Cameroonian Football Association (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto'o, with a six-month ban from attending matches of Cameroon's representative teams for breaches of articles 13 (Offensive behaviour and violations of the principles of fair play) and 14 (Misconduct of players and officials) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.”

“The sanction was imposed in connection with the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup round-of-16 match between Brazil and Cameroon played in Bogotá, Colombia, on 11 September 2024.

“The ban imposed on Mr Eto'o prevents him from attending men's and women's matches involving FECAFOOT teams of all categories and age groups. Mr Eto'o has been notified today, the date on which the sanction comes into force.”

This is the latest in a trend of transgressions committed by Samuel Eto'o in his capacity as FECAFOOT president. He carried allegations of match-fixing for months, and although he was absolved by CAF, the federation slapped him with a ₦300 million fine for violating principles of ethics, integrity and sportsmanship. Also, he has been accused of attaining the position of FECAFOOT president illegally.
