Why Finidi resigned
A lot of talks have been going on regarding the position of Finidi in the team after the news of getting a technical adviser sprouted.
Recent reports from a source close to the situation reported that Finidi has stepped down from his position as the Super Eagles' head coach.
However, it is yet to be known what could have led to his resignation, but we can deduce what could have triggered his decision.
1. Finidi not respected by the NFF
Finidi’s appointment as the Super Eagles manager was met with backlash and doubt about his ability to manage the team.
The former Eyinmba manager has struggled to meet the expectations of the NFF, having been given a short time to perform.
With just two qualifying games that ended in a draw and a loss, the NFF have questioned his ability and summoned an urgent meeting with the sports minister.
The decision to appoint a technical adviser and demote him from his position could have come as a disrespect to Finidi, which could have led to his resignation.
2. Finidi not wanting to be a second fiddle
The news of a new technical adviser for the Super Eagles has brought a lot of questions on the position of Finidi in the team.
The NFF decided to bring in a new person to take charge of the team, which could mean that Finidi’s is no longer the main man.
A lot of thoughts could have crossed Finidi’s mind after the NFF’s decision that could make him feel like he would be a second fiddle in the team.
This decision could also have triggered his decision to leave his position as the head coach of the Super Eagles.
3. Nigerians didn't support him
Another issue that could have caused Finidi’s resignation was the fact that Nigerians failed to back their very own.
After the disappointment against South Africa and Benin Republic, Nigerians took to social media to vent their frustration.
The whole situation led to many Nigerians calling for the sacking of Finidi when they saw that the chances of qualifying for the next World Cup were getting slimmer.
The fact that Nigerians were in a heist to get rid of Findi and not support him after just two competitive games could push him to resign from his position.
