La Viola had in-form Italian striker Moise Kean to thank for their solitary goal as they beat Atalanta at home to boost their own slim chances of sneaking into a European place at the end of the season.

How it happened

The match saw both sides missing key members, with Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini serving a touchline ban and several first-team members sidelined.

The Viola, fresh from a dominant 3-0 win over Juventus, faced an Atalanta side whose Scudetto hopes had already faded after their recent loss to Inter.

Kean, who had been threatening early on, seized his moment when he intercepted Isak Hien’s poor touch near the halfway line.

The Italian striker sprinted forward and fired a precise finish past Marco Carnesecchi, giving Fiorentina the lead.

Atalanta pushed for an equalizer, with Ademola Lookman, Charles De Ketelaere, and Mateo Retegui all testing the Fiorentina defense, however, Luca Ranieri and goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano stood firm, denying several close chances.

Fiorentina had opportunities to extend their lead, with Lucas Beltrán squandering a golden chance, but their single goal proved enough.

The defeat marked Atalanta’s first away loss in Serie A in seven months, while Fiorentina gained crucial points in their European push.
