The former National Super League side have had a high-flying start to life in the top tier FKF Premier League.

Mara Sugar FC has taken the competition by storm with an impressive start to their debut season in the FKF Premier League (FKF PL) following their promotion from the National Super League (NSL).

The millers currently sit second on the league table with 15 points, just two shy of leaders KCB after eight matches played.

Head coach George Midenyo has shed light on the factors behind his team’s stellar performances, citing unwavering support from the community as key motivators.

“Number one, I can say it’s prayers,” Midenyo shared via Tata Sport.

“We have families back at home that pray and fellowship on our behalf, giving the boys motivation. Then the determination and hard work of the boys follow.”

Adapting to the pressures of top-flight football has been a challenge for Mara Sugar, especially given the limited fan presence during their time in the NSL.

However, Midenyo believes the players are rising to the occasion.

“The boys are not so used to the pressure of the fans because back at home, we don’t have that many fans at games. But they’re getting used to it now, and we are getting in rhythm,” he explained.

Beyond the league table, Midenyo has a larger vision for the club and his charges, seeking to expose the players to a watchful eyes.

“My biggest dream this season is to give our players a platform to be discovered and to showcase their talent to the world,” he added.

Midenyo’s immediate focus is to guide his team back to winning ways when they face Sofapaka in their next fixture on November 24.

This follows a hard-fought 1-1 draw against AFC Leopards, a match that further underscored the Awendo-based team competitiveness in the top tier.
