The window is expected to be open for exactly one month.
The mid-season transfer window in Kenya is officially open for all teams participating in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) leagues with clubs expected to submit transfers before every Wednesday for a new recruit to play over the weekend.
A press release issued by FKF confirmed the commencement of transfer dealings stating that the activity on this window is open to all its affiliates.
According to the release, the mid-season transfer window opened on Monday 27 February and will close on Monday 27 March meaning teams have the whole month to beef up their squads for the second half of the 2022-2023 season.
“Clubs playing across all FKF leagues have the chance to bolster their ranks during the mid-season transfer window. The transfer window will begin at midnight on Monday, February 27, 2023, and run till Monday, March 27, 2023, at 5 pm.
International transfers will also follow the exact timelines. Because leagues are currently underway and to allow ample time to process licenses, only players whose transfers and registrations will be completed by Wednesday of every week shall be eligible to play in the weekend matches.
Any transfers and registrations received after Wednesday shall be approved and processed the following week.” reads the statement.
As per FIFA guidelines, the opening of the mid-season window also allows players in the final six months of their contracts to sign pre-contracts with teams of their choice.
It also presents an opportunity for players whose contracts were terminated soon after the previous window to find new homes and return to the field.
Players such as Kevin Amwayi, who signed a pre-contract with Kakamega Homeboyz earlier this month, can now be registered with the FKF.
Amwayi has been training with Abana Abeingo, meaning he will be available to feature against his former side Ulinzi Stars, on Wednesday 8 March.
