FKFPL Week 10 review : Chaos after AFC Leopards’ City Stars defeat, Shabana in relegation places and how will Tusker stop the rot?

From Shabana getting into the relegation places to security officers having to prevent AFC Leopards fans from causing trouble following defeat to Nairobi City Stars, here are the talking points from gameweek 10 of the FKFPL.

After match week ten of the FKFPL, teams have had enough time to make fans, pundits and neutrals alike start gathering substantial information about what was learnt about the last set of fixtures.

With officially now 20 gameweeks left to go, a lot of things could still change as it is a long season ahead, but after nearly three months of FKFPL action now behind us, here are some of the conclusions we made from match week 10 of the FKFPL.

Controversy sparks in AFC Leopards’ defeat to City Stars

The game between AFC Leopards and City Stars sparked controversy.

Shortly after the final whistle, a section of fans caused mayhem outside the match venue leading to running battles with the security personnel.

Two fans were rushed to hospital after going down unconscious during the chaos that lasted almost an hour.

Leopards players and technical staff had to be locked in the changing rooms as fans wanted to break in, forcing police to use teargas and rubber bullets to disperse them.

Vincent Owino opened the scoring for Simba wa Nairobi in the 31st minute before Samuel Kapen made it 2-0, 10 minutes after halftime and Robinson Asenwa would score the third in the 61st minute.

It looked like Leopards had no way back after that but Brain Yakhama grabbed one in the 83rd minute before Victor Otieno made it 3-2 six minutes later but it was too little too late for Ingwe as City Stars held on for maximum points.

The scoreline between KCB and Posta does not really tell the full story

If you log onto a scores updates application and see the result between KCB and Posta Rangers, you will see that the game ended 0-0 and assume it was as dull as the result in itself.

You could not be more wrong. This is a game that should have ended 3-3 or even 4-4 in another case. KCB alone smashed the crossbar three times during the game, while Posta Rangers smashed it twice and forced Bankers’ custodian Gabriel Andika into making two excellent saves.

Francis Kahiro of KCB should have scored a hat-trick in the first half, epitomizing just how end-to-end the game was, not too dissimilar to a typical Bundesliga match.

This is the game that in all honesty, should have been broadcasted instead of the one taking place at the Kasarani Stadium between Kenya Police and Gor Mahia that was an eye sore to say the least given how unentertaining it was.

Whats’ going wrong for Tusker after suffering defeat to Murang’a Seal?

Tusker’s rather indifferent start to the season continued as they were downed 2-1 by Murang’a Seal at the SportPesa Park on Sunday afternoon, which is starting to raise concerns amongst both fans and neutrals alike.

They have uncharacteristically now lost three five games this season and sit 13th in the league, 10 points behind league leaders Posta Rangers.

Trouble in their camp has been well documented ever since the game before Gor Mahia when charman Charles Gacheru had given Robert Matano an ultimatum. — Win the game or get sacked — , but despite defeat, he stayed in the job.

Once might wonder how the Brewers will stop the rot which seems to be getting bigger and bigger as the season goes on.

They face City Stars in their next match, an opposition notoriously known for their hard-as-nails approach whenever they play the Brewers, and if a positive result is not delivered, then it will be interesting to see what goes on.

For Murang’a Seal, their dream Premier League debut season continues and they find themselves challenging for the title.

They sit third in the league, one point behind Posta Rangers, and people have started drawing comparisons to Sofapaka in 2009, who won the league at the first time of asking, ironically being coached by Matano himself.Boredom an understatement in Gor Mahia’s draw with Kenya Police

The Game between Gor Mahia and Kenya police quite frankly had nothing much to write about.

No, seriously, one has seen more entertainment in a library. Both sides struggled to create inroads in the other’s half. Chances created were very minimal, and it was epitomised in the fact that Benson Omala only touched the ball nine times all afternoon, showing how isolated he was.

Police boss Zdravko Logarusic set the team up in two banks of four, while for Gor Mahia, they tried interchanging well and creating overloads on the flanks in efforts to try and create, but they could hardly find a way through.

Sam Okoth’s future bleak after Shabana lose to Bandari?

Shabana are now firmly in the automatic relegation places after losing their third game in a row to Bandari on Sunday, a result that forced Sammy Okoth into snubbing the media after the match amidst speculation about his future.

Despite a commendable performance, Shabana's string of missed chances at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa on Sunday left them losing 2-1.

In the aftermath of another defeat, pressure has undoubtedly mounted on Shabana's head coach Sammy Okoth, who had briefly resigned the previous weekend only to retract his decision.

Okoth avoided the limelight and the probing questions of the media. Could it be that he will finally get his wish of wanting to leave the club after demanding he would be quitting at least three times this season?

Was he warned by the Shabana management not to talk to the media afterwards?

However, based on how they have played their last two games against Gor Mahia and Bandari, there is no reason to panic, and it is only a matter of time before they get back to winning ways.
