Orban’s one year spell at Lyon has been nothing short of painful, but a move within Ligue 1 could rescue what is left of his career progression.
Lyon looking to sell Orban
Despite having been at the club for such a short time, Lyon are already hoping to sell Orban for a number of reasons.
The Nigerian striker has been unable to properly integrate into the Lyon squad since his move from Gent in January 2024, and has been unable to replicate the form that made him one of the hottest prospects in Europe.
With only three starts this season, Orban finds himself on the fringes of the Lyon first team as injuries and the coach’s preference have kept him out of the team for the majority of the season.
The former Super Eagles invitee now finds himself one of many players that Lyon hope to sell this January window to ease their financial struggles as they face the prospect of relegation as a punishment for their money problems.
Orban receives multiple suitors
Despite his struggles, Orban’s undeniable talent means that he continues to attract interest from clubs in Europe’s top leagues.
Orban has already been sounded out by German side Hoffenheim, who have reportedly tabled bids of up to €10m for the Nigerian forward.
According to reports in France, Hoffenheim now face competition for Orban’s signature as Lens have also thrown their hat in the ring with a bid thought to be below Lyon’s €12m asking price.
This leaves Lyon and Orban with a choice to make as the January window approaches, with the Nigerian star destined for a winter move to ease his club’s financial struggles.
