A South Africa Premier Soccer League side have signed Kenyan international Vincent Oburu to boost their attack in relegation battle.

Kenyan international striker Vincent Oburu has officially signed with a South African Premier Soccer League club that is battling to avoid relegation.

The 27-year-old winger joins Richards Bay on an 18-month deal from Zambian outfit Zesco United, with an option to extend his stay by a further year.

Oburu was on loan at Napsa Stars before making the switch to South Africa.

His new team is eager to bolster its attacking options to climb out of 15th place on the league table.

The winger replaces Thabang Sibanyoni, who returned to Mamelodi Sundowns after completing his loan spell.

"The winger will be eligible to play in January when the transfer window opens, and he could make his debut against Marumo Gallants on January 4, depending on the approval of his South African work permit," Goal South Africa reported.

The move comes after Oburu impressed during a trial stint, showing the determination and skillset that have made him a notable figure in Kenyan football.

The winger brings a wealth of experience, having developed his career at Kenyan clubs Wazito and AFC Leopards before moving to Zesco United.

He was also a standout performer for the Harambee Stars, Kenya's national team, and played a pivotal role in their 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup victory.

Oburu's arrival is seen as a strategic signing by his new club, which is grappling with the threat of relegation.

The winger previously underwent trials at AmaZulu last season but was not signed by the Durban-based side.

While Oburu prepares for his new journey in South Africa, his national team is also making headlines.

Kenya has been linked with appointing former Manchester United forwards coach Benni McCarthy as their next head coach.

McCarthy, a highly respected figure in African football, is currently unattached after leaving his role at the English Premier League club.

Oburu’s presence in South Africa could add an interesting subplot to this potential coaching appointment, as the Kenyan winger will aim to shine on a stage where McCarthy’s name carries significant weight.
