Robert Muthomi has transitioned to a new leadership position in sports, three years after leaving the Football Kenya Federation amid controversy.

Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Chief Executive Officer Robert Muthomi has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of the Professional Golfers of Kenya Association (PGK).

This announcement comes three years after his departure from Kenya's football governing body amid a transfer saga involving Sofapaka player John Avire.

In July 2019, Muthomi stepped aside from his role at FKF to allow for investigations into allegations surrounding the controversial transfer.

However, he was cleared of all charges by October 2019 when the FKF Disciplinary Committee found insufficient evidence against him.

The Professional Golfers of Kenya Association, in a statement released on Thursday, expressed their enthusiasm for Muthomi's arrival, which is slated for March 1, 2024.

"With a wealth of experience and a profound passion for the sport of golf, Robert is poised to lead the PGK into an exciting new chapter of growth and development," the statement read.

Muthomi's vision for PGK is reported to be in perfect harmony with the organization's goals of promoting and advancing golf in Kenya.

He shared his eagerness to collaborate with stakeholders, members, and partners to boost the profile of golf and open up new avenues for professionals in the sport.

C.J Wangai, the Chairman of PGK, lauded Muthomi's appointment as a pivotal moment for the organization.

Muthomi's background in sports administration, particularly with his previous roles at FKF and Nakuru All Stars, positions him as a seasoned executive capable of steering PGK towards its ambitious goals.

The controversy that led to his departure from FKF involved accusations from Sofapaka of facilitating an illegal move for John Avire by assisting in acquiring an Egyptian visa.

This move was purportedly under the guise of Avire attending the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Despite these allegations, Muthomi maintained his innocence, describing the accusations as "malicious" and stepping aside to preserve his integrity and the public's confidence in the federation.
