Fatai Amoo hails Eguavoen
In response to Nigeria's victory over the Mediterranean Knights at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Fatai Amoo gave Eguavoen credit for the team's recent improvements.
Amoo told Brila, “So far, they have done quite well. in terms of the result we might say it didn’t meet public expectations, but we played well overall.
“Their defence prevented us from get many scoring opportunities; the Center forwards didn’t get much on the chances, but our wingers tried.
“Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman and even Samuel Chukwueze all did well. Perhaps we could have given Chidera Ejuke minutes too, he’s a good dribbler and that can help creatively in a game of that nature.
“Honestly, the coaches did well with the substitutions in terms of creating chances. We only just need to reshuffle the team.
“Our expectations are high because of past records, but if we bring in Pep Guardiola today, do you think he would be able to use some of the players that we have? Let’s be honest with ourselves.”
In his fourth stint as coach of the three-time AFCON champions, Eguavoen has won two of the three games he has managed and played one draw.
The team's play on the field has also much improved, with more offensive play made away from Peseiro's hoop and hope attempt.
Nigeria continue their quest for a place in the AFCON 2025 tournament on Tuesday, as they take on Libya at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi.
