The former Kenya international has urged the national team to call up teenage striker Aldine Kibet, citing his exceptional talent.

Former Gor Mahia coach Bob Oyugi has called for the inclusion of teenage sensation Aldrine Kibet in the national football team, Harambee Stars.

Oyugi believes Kibet, who is currently based in Spain, is the missing piece in Kenya’s attacking lineup and could form a lethal partnership with Michael Olunga.

Kibet recently played a pivotal role in Kenya’s qualification for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The young star, who first honed his skills at St. Anthony Boys Kitale, has been making waves internationally, representing the Nastic Sports Academy in Tarragona, Spain.

However, Oyugi is baffled as to why the national team has yet to utilize Kibet’s immense talent.

“There is a boy named Kibet who was studying at St. Anthony. I wanted to offer him a scholarship, but another program came up, and he chose that instead because it was his decision,” Oyugi revealed as per Tata Sport.

“I don’t understand why the Harambee Stars coach hasn’t fielded him alongside Olunga. That boy has remarkable skills, and if the national team could pair the two strikers, they would score many goals.”

Kibet has rapidly ascended the ranks of Kenyan football transitioning from a standout performance in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) tournament in August to becoming a key player in Kenya’s U-20 squad.

His four goals and one assist during the AFCON qualifiers in Tanzania showcased his ability to perform under pressure.

His ball-carrying skills, dribbling, and tactical awareness were lauded by both fans and coaches, cementing his reputation as a future star.

“I just wish the coach would have the courage to field him, and he would see the results. Kibet is a gem,” Oyugi emphasized, urging the national team to give the youngster a chance.

Kibet’s journey began humbly at Poror Primary School in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, where his raw talent was first noticed.

Progressing to the Eldama Ravine Soccer Centre, Kibet’s commitment and exceptional skills began to shine, earning him recognition from local football enthusiasts.

His breakthrough came in 2018 when he was named the most outstanding player at the Wanyama Royal Charity Cup, a tournament hosted by Kenyan football icon Victor Wanyama.

Representing St. Anthony’s Kitale, Kibet’s stellar performance during the KSSSA tournament last year captured national attention.

Kibet’s AFCON qualifier performances have further cemented his case for a senior team call-up.

Despite starting on the bench against Tanzania in the group stage, he proved his worth in subsequent matches, scoring and assisting crucial goals.

His ability to win fouls, relieve pressure, and create moments of brilliance was instrumental in Kenya’s successful campaign.

“He has what it takes to succeed at the highest level,” Oyugi concluded.

“If paired with experienced players like Olunga, he can help transform the team’s fortunes.
