Erick Masika takes on coaching role at Kona Rangers FC, transitioning from player to mentor.

Former Gor Mahia FC, AFC Leopards, and Harambee Stars defender, Erick Masika, has embarked on a new chapter in his football journey as he assumes the role of head coach for FKF Division 2 Western zone side, Kona Rangers FC.

The announcement marks a significant milestone in Masika's career, transitioning from a decorated player to a mentor guiding the next generation of football talents.

Eleven years ago, Masika made waves in Kenyan football history when he made a high-profile move from K'Ogalo to Ingwe in a transfer deal valued at Kshs 450,000/-. This move not only underscored his skill on the field but also positioned him as the most expensive player in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League at that time.

After bidding farewell to his playing days, Masika seamlessly transitioned into coaching, initially investing his expertise in the vibrant football community of Kibra.

Leveraging his rich knowledge as a player, Masika dedicated himself to empowering young footballers in the area, shaping their skills and nurturing their potential.

Masika's football journey commenced in 2009, and he quickly rose through the ranks, donning the jerseys of Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, and the Harambee Stars.

His initiation into the national team during the 2011 LG Cup in Nairobi against Sudan affirmed his status as one of the future stars for the Harambee Stars. Masika's on-field exploits mirrored his commitment to excellence, earning him respect both as a player and, now, as a coach.

Beyond the football pitch, Masika pursued academic endeavors, studying for a Bachelor of Commerce at the Catholic University of East Africa. His academic pursuits complemented his passion for soccer, further enriching his understanding of the sport's dynamics.

Masika’s  journey through Sunshine High School in Nairobi saw a brief dalliance with rugby, but the allure of soccer proved irresistible, shaping the trajectory of his sporting career.

Drawing inspiration from former Gor Mahia player Austin Oduor, Masika found his calling in soccer. The pivotal role of mentorship in his life was played by Mike Otieno, his mentor and childhood trainer, who guided him through the formative years of his career.

Before joining the ranks of Gor Mahia, Masika showcased his talent in various teams, including Kenya Polytechnic, Sacramento, Lang’ata United, and the Tusker Youth team.
