Former Harambee Stars defender Ahmed Breik passed away after an illness and was buried at 4 pm in Mombasa's Kikowani Muslim cemetery.

Former Harambee Stars defender Ahmed Breik, renowned for his outstanding contributions to Kenyan football during the 1960s and early 1970s, sadly passed away on Monday morning at his residence in Mombasa's Majengo area.

Ahmed Breik was a beloved figure in Mombasa, known not only for his exceptional skills on the field but also for his role as a fatherly figure and a source of guidance to many.

His legacy extends beyond his football career, touching the lives of those who had the privilege to know him.

Breik's son, Ali Ahmed Breik, confirmed the sad news, stating, "He was not only a father to us but also a friend. We will miss his advice on how to succeed in life and his fatherly guidance." as per Nation Sport.

Ali himself followed in his father's footsteps, having played for notable teams like Mombasa Stars, Mombasa Wanderers, Bandari, and the national team, Harambee Stars.

Throughout his career, Ahmed Breik left an indelible mark on Kenyan football.

He represented Feisal FC, Mombasa Combined, and proudly donned the national team jersey as a Harambee Stars defender.

His dedication and skill earned him over 36 caps between 1964 and 1970, during which he scored an impressive seven goals.

One of the most significant achievements in Ahmed Breik's career was winning the Kenya Premier League title with Feisal in 1965.

He also contributed to Kenya's international football success, playing a pivotal role in the Harambee Stars' victory at the Gossage Cup in 1972.

The team, which included notable players like the late Ali Kajo, Ali Sungura, Kadir Farah, and goalkeeper Mahmoud Mohamed, showcased Ahmed Breik's ability to shine on the grand stage.

Nassir Omar, his former teammate and a friendly rival at the club level, shared his condolence.

"Despite being rivals at club level, we were good friends and played together in the national team. I send my condolences to his family and pray to God to keep him in eternal peace," he said.

The football community and fans alike will pay their respects to Ahmed Breik at his last prayers, which were held at Marembo Mosque at 4 pm on Monday.

He will be laid to rest at the Kikowani Muslim cemetery in Mombasa, a final tribute to a football legend.

Ahmed Breik's legacy will live on through the memories he created, the lives he touched, and the indomitable spirit he brought to the beautiful game of football.
