The South Korean-based footballer’s venture, which began in 2018, faced criticism from pundits and fans alike for detracting from his focus on football at the time

JLingz brand struggles from the start

Launched while he was still a key member of Manchester United’s first team, JLingz Ltd featured clothing, footwear, and accessories inspired by Lingard’s unique, trademarked goal celebration.

Despite its initial buzz, the company struggled financially from its inception, proving critics, who believed Lingard made a mistake with the clothes brand, right.

Naysayers, including former Manchester United stars Roy Keane and Gary Neville, questioned Lingard’s timing and priorities, particularly after he unveiled the brand ahead of a crucial match against Liverpool in 2018.

At the time, Neville said, “Before Liverpool away — the biggest match of the season — don’t launch a clothes brand.”

Lingard hoping to right career path in Seoul

Lingard’s football career has been similarly problematic since leaving Manchester United after falling out of favour at Old Trafford.

A brief loan spell at West Ham in 2021 helped him regain his form, but he returned to Manchester United after failing to secure a permanent move and fell back down the pecking order.

A free transfer to Nottingham Forest in 2022 yielded little fruit as he was soon on the fringes of the Tricky Tees’ first team and later moved to FC Seoul in February 2024.

In South Korea, Lingard’s performance has been inconsistent. Despite being named captain late in the season, he managed only six goals in 23 appearances, leaving fans and analysts questioning whether his career trajectory could still match the promise he once showed at Old Trafford.
