Former Nigeria and Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro will make his bow as new Zamalek boss in CAFCC against a team from South Africa.

Former Nigeria Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro is set to make his debut as the new head coach of Zamalek SC in the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) against South African side Stellenbosch FC.

This matchup comes on the heels of Peseiro's experience facing South Africa’s national team, Bafana Bafana, during the AFCON 2023 semifinals in Côte d'Ivoire with Nigeria.

The CAFCC draw, held in Doha, Qatar, has placed Peseiro's Zamalek in a challenging position as they aim to defend their title after finishing top of Group B with 16 points.

Peseiro's return to management follows a year-long hiatus after leaving the Super Eagles, where he guided the team to the finals of the last TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations.

Peseiro replaced Swiss coach Christian Gross, who had a brief tenure at Zamalek. The Portuguese tactician previously managed Al Ahly during the 2015/16 season and is now tasked with revitalising Zamalek’s campaign.

The quarterfinals will see Zamalek play the first leg away against Stellenbosch before hosting the return leg in Cairo. The matches are scheduled for April 2 and April 9, 2025.

Nigeria and South Africa are preparing to rekindle their rivalry after the explosive encounter between them at the AFCON 2023.

Meanwhile, Nigerian forward Tosin Omoyele and his Algerian club CS Constantine will also be competing against USMA in their quarterfinal matchup.

While no Nigerian team made it through the group stages after Enyimba was stopped by Al Masry and Zamalek, Nigerians will keep tabs on Peseiro and Omoyele’s progress in the competition.

Nigerians will be keen to see how Peseiro handles this encounter against the latest South African opposition once again, hoping for another favourable after the previous clash with Bafana Bafana.
