The People’s Elephants have found their feet after a third consecutive win in the Football League.
Enyimba manager Finidi George is under no illusions that his side deserved their latest win in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL.
The People’s Elephant delivered a classic performance to see off Shooting Stars, 3SC, 2-0 during a week eight encounter in Aba on Wednesday.
Emeka Obioma was the hero of the day for the Ava Millionaires after he scored both goals that saw them compound the woes of their former manager, Gbenga Ogunbote and his 3SC side.
Obioma’s brace was scored in a blistering first-half performance to give the eight-time champions their third successive win and fifth of the season in the league.
Elephants deserved the win
Enyimba’s boss, George, was a happy man after the game and reacted to the latest performance from his side in the NPFL.
Speaking after the game, the former Super Eagles winger noted that his Elephants were worthy winners against the Oluyole Warriors following an all-around solid display.
“I think the players did well, a lot of pressure in the game, and we created many chances,” he told Enyimba media after the game.
“I think we deserved to win the match. If you want to go places you have to be solid at the back, the players are doing that and it will take us to where we want to be.”
“Not only at the defenders but all the players. Now the belief is there, the results are coming and we're all happy."
What the result means
Enyimba’s win over Shooting Stars was the fifth of the season and sees the Aba side move up to second on the table in Group A on 16 points.
Finidi and his Elephants are four points behind leaders Bendel Insurance, who maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a hard-earned narrow win over Nasarawa United.
