FOOTBALL Former Tusker, Sofapaka head coach passes away

The tactician was reportedly in charge of URA's training session on Friday but passed on a day later.

The football fraternity has once again been thrown into mourning after former Tusker and Sofapaka head coach Sam Timbe passed away on Saturday 19 August.

Timbe was well and is reported to have been in charge of Uganda Revenue Authority’s (URA) FC Friday training session but unexpectedly fell in on Saturday morning.

The experienced gaffer complained of a fever during the training session and the situation worsened on Saturday prompting him to be rushed to ICU.

URA confirmed the coach’s demise as he was being rushed to a hospital in Uganda after being previously being admitted to another medical facility.

"We are saddened to inform you of the unfortunate passing of our esteemed Head Coach, Sam Timbe, this afternoon while en route to Nakasero Hospital for ICU, as referred by St Catherine Hospital.

“Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Currently, our team is in camp at Standard Hotel, Kampala, preparing for the upcoming FUFA Super 8 cup semi-final match against KCCA FC, scheduled tomorrow at the MTN Omondi Stadium. Further updates will be provided in due course," read the statement from URA

The 69 year old who was born in Manafa District, Uganda was a footballer who played for Coffee FC but was never capped by Uganda Cranes despite being part of the set up between 1978-1983.

He is the most successful CECAFA Kagame Cup coach having won the converted trophy with SC Villa (2005), Police (2006), Atraco (2009) and Young Africans (2011).

Timbe is also a three time league winner with SC Villa (2004), Atraco (2008) and Young Africans (2010/2011), a feat that enhanced his reputation.
