Ifeoma Onumomu, who is in red-hot form in France, scored for Nigeria, assisted by Monday Gift, in the additional time of the first half.
It was history for the Super Falcons as they finally scored against France for the first time after several meetings.
In the second half, Head Coach Justine Madagu brought on Rinsola Babajide in search of an equalizer.
France were however able to hold on to record a win at the Stade Raymond Kopa in the city of Angers.
