The France star was left out of Deschamps' latest Les Bleus' squad
Kylian Mbappe will miss the French national team’s next two Nations League matches, marking the second consecutive international break without the star forward.
French manager Didier Deschamps remained coy about the reasons for leaving Mbappe out, only noting that it was purely his decision and stating that the choice was made with the best interests of the team in mind.
Deschamps reveals Mbappe omission
At Thursday’s press conference, Deschamps explained that his decision to exclude Mbappe from the squad for matches against Israel and Italy was carefully considered.
"I had several discussions with him [Mbappe]," Deschamps said, adding, "I had a think about it, and I made the decision for this specific international break."
He also made it clear that Mbappe was eager to participate, pouring cold water on speculation about off-field issues influencing the decision.
However, Deschamps insisted that he would not elaborate further, as he wanted to avoid "any reasoning that might be open to interpretation."
Mbappe still finding Real Madrid feet
Mbappe’s absence from the squad comes after a challenging few weeks at Real Madrid, where he’s faced a dip in form since his move from Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite playing in Los Blancos’ recent Champions League loss to AC Milan, Deschamps opted to leave the forward out, reiterating, “It’s my decision; it’s better this way.
The absence of France’s captain has left some fans questioning if there’s more to the story since Mbappe has been under scrutiny recently, after requesting to play only “important” matches for France, so his exclusion could be Deschamps preparing for potential future absences.
