Nigeria vs France: Plumptre returns as Madugu invites 20 Super Falcons for Les Bleues
Plumptre returns as Madugu invites 20 players for Super Falcons of Nigeria vs Les Bleues of France international friendly.
This encounter marks the second meeting between the two sides, with their previous clash in April 2018 resulting in a heavy 8-0 defeat for the Falcons at Stade Marie-Marvingt in Le Mans.
Following a disappointing performance at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament earlier this summer, Nigeria via the NFF is looking to provide exposure and experience to a new generation of players.
That 2018 defeat equalled the Falcons' largest loss in history, a record shared with their 1995 FIFA World Cup loss to Norway and a friendly defeat to Germany in 2010.
Consequently, he Falcons will be looking for revenge when both teams step on the pitch this weekend after that infamous defeat six years ago.
However, past encounters at the FIFA World Cup have been much closer, with Nigeria narrowly losing to France by a single goal in both the 2011 and 2019 tournaments.
The match against Les Bleues comes shortly after the Super Falcons secured two convincing victories against Algeria's Green Ladies, winning 2-0 and 4-1 in their recent friendlies.
These matches were instrumental in building confidence within the squad as they gear up for the upcoming Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) set to take place next summer in Morocco.
Saturday's friendly will kick off at 9:30 PM local time (France) and will serve as an important test for Nigeria as they look to secure their first-ever victory over France.
The Les Bleues are using this match as part of their preparations for the UEFA Women's Euro Championship next summer.
